SOUTHERN COMFORT

MARCH 19, 2011

The theme for March is going to be "Southern Comfort" - food from the south.  I was going back and forth between a few ideas and then saw an article on Saveur titled, Southern Comfort, and decided to go with that.  I think I am going to make the main dish from that article, Country Captain.  It's a dish that I've seen before and have wanted to try.  It is a curried chicken casserole that originated when ship's captains in SC and Georgia traded spices during their travels.  I will be making plain rice to serve with it - it's part of the recipe.

I'm not sure if this is right.  I didn't include Bridget but if she can come then I believe she would bring dessert and Amy K would bring a side.  I just tried to distribute these more evenly with less people.  Jen, I figured you can bring an appetizer or first course - whatever you feel like bringing  since technically you were up for appetizer.  Let's say 7:30 on the 19th.

Hi y'all.  Sorry the theme is coming so delayed. I trust you can all come up
with something amazing however.
The theme to this month's FC is: The Great Gatsby.
I wanted to do something where strong fashion is involved (kind of paying
homage to fashion week - as you can see there is not much going on in
February) therefore, I hope to see everyone is some form of costume!

I have invited a guest to join us.  It's my friend Katie.  This brings us to
8 people.  Hope not too much of an inconvenience.  I also put Cvan back into
the rotation and took one person out (the appetizer person will get a break
when everyone is attending like this month - congrats Sarah S.)

Each dish must include some form of alcohol as an ingredient.  I maintained the course order, except that I switched Cvan (Bridget) and me, so that we don't skip ahead two courses (for example, I didn't want Shannon to miss dessert and go straight to Side 2).  So, it's as though September didn't happen, and Bridget is up next month for hosting.  Jen, could you forward me Bridget's email so I have it?  Thanks, and everyone put your dates in Doodle!

LA TOMATINA

Okay Fooder's, 
Food Club will take place next Wednesday, the 25th, at 7pm (is that time okay?).
Our theme is inspired by the famous annual, festival in Spain, La Tomatina, which occurs the last Wednesday in August -  the 25th!  Traditionally, an enormous tomato fight takes place... and while I'm not sure if i can find enough for that, let us be inspired by the tomato and the playful nature of the event.

Friday, May 28th

The date for our next food club is Friday the 28th.  The theme is Moroccan – plain and simple.
